Secrets.

One of the things I used to hate about Malayalam novels is the entire bucket-loads of secrecy that they contained. It seemed always that every character was perpetuating yet another misunderstanding or miscommunication at every turn of the literary corner.. I used to think, "why on earth don't they just TALK it out and get themselves a happily-ever-after?!"

Yet, as I grow older, I observe Mallu novels coming to life all around me. And even within me. There are indeed some sorrows you cannot share. There are some words which can never be uttered. There are some secrets that can never be revealed. And there are some scars that never will heal.

After almost a year..

I'm back. On the eve of our 62nd independence day, I salute Mother India with whatever good lies in me. Looking through the Yahoo! India home page, I find myself wondering what our forefathers who fought so hard for freedom might think if they saw what the Independence Day has come to mean. " This Independence Day break free from the shackles of fashion trends and unleash your own unique style" declares one of the featured articles. I leave you to have your own reactions. (Hint: Mine was disbelief tinged with mild horror). Cut to the advertisement on TV in which a handicapped man (if i remember correctly, one of whose legs was lame) on the sidewalk, repairing shoes for a living, teaches a child to stand straight and proud for our National Anthem. Can you even compare feeling that ad evokes to the Yahoo! one above? I am only twenty, but I really do think that at least some  Indians need to refresh their patriotism.

Meaning of life?

Huh.  Nearly seven years after my last post. And I STILL feel almost exactly the same! Bloody hell. So. I'm an entrepreneur now, have a two-going-on-three year old company (no, I'm STILL not married, nor baby-carriaged) and am still pretty clueless. Hm. I sense a theme here. I've been thinking (ha!) about life over the past few days. Haven't quite yet figured out why it is that "growing up" seems so stressful to me. Starting Aeka has drop-kicked me into becoming an adult in some ways, but I'm still stymied as to the contribution that I'm supposed to make to humanity. Like, what's my life supposed to be about, dude? We have the nice little career-family-retirement progression charted out for us by a benevolent (?) society. And I'm really not the adventurous type. I like boundaries. I like checking boxes, and having lists. Bit weak at sticking to them, maybe, but I like 'em. Perhaps that's what scares me about growing up. ...

The Big, BIG world.

One question that has always flitted across my mind, ever since I was old enough to think for myself is, "what if I had been born someone else, in some other part of the world?" Sometimes when I read about another place, or see a picture showing something foreign to my land and my culture, I get a very strange feeling that I have known those things, those times, and those lifestyles once upon a time. Deja vu? Or plain lunacy? I don't know. But fact is, not too many years ago, most of us did not know the big, big world that awaited us "out there". But today, thanks to science, and man's imaginative creativity, that huge blue-and-green planet is almost as accessible as the neighbourhood store. Though this is not what I had intended to write, this is what has written itself.
